First Post...
July 21, 2011Hey y'all! This is my first blog entry, and apparently I'm just supposed to talk to myself & type it out. Sounds easy right? Well, it's a little awkward considering all our lives consist of is working, working, and working some more, so they don't really seem all that interesting; however, there are some people I would like to keep updated who may or may not have Facebook, so I figured this would be a good tool to use. Plus, I've always liked to write, and lately, all I've been writing are papers for school, so this will be a nice change.
First off, let me say thank you to our friends and family who have not let distance get in the way of keeping in touch with us. I have lived in Norman 5 years, and Corey moved here with me after we got married last summer, so he's been here a little over a year. This first year of marriage has been a whirlwind, but it's been such a blessing! It really has been blissful! (As blissful as it can be in a 750 s.f. apartment :( ) It's hard moving from all of your friends you grew up with to a place where it's just you and your spouse (and a couple of in-laws :D ). It's true: you really do find out who your friends are when you live 160 miles away, so thank you to those who have made an effort to keep in touch with us and have been there for us. We love you all! We know that God has a reason for keeping certain people in our lives and placing people in our paths, but also for ridding us of some as well; we are beginning to see the blessings of both. Anywho...moving on...
Currently, as you may know, we are in the process of building our very first home! It will be so nice to have neighbors that we actually like instead of those that we only see or hear coming and going at all hours of the night. Our closing date is Sept. 2 (only 43 more days!) and we are pumped! We're down to the nitty gritty now, and we absolutely LOVE our house!
Here's what the front looks like: (pre sod, landscaping & touching up)

It's a little over 1,700 s.f. and has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a study. We actually did not plan on building our first house at all; but God blessed us both with great, awesome jobs and surrounded us with amazing people, and it all seemed to fall into place. We started getting on http://www.openhouseok.com/ and looking at what we thought we could afford. Then, we started driving around to newer housing additions and going to open- houses to get interior ideas (i.e. cabinets, master bathroom) so we would know what was "in style" :) Turns out, it would be smarter for us to build just slightly north of the Norman city limits in Moore than to buy a house in Norman for the same price. Corey & I will each have about a 15-20 min. drive to work in the morning. My favorite part: no interstates or major highways to have to fight rush hour traffic. It will be perfect! Below are some more pics of my favorite part of the house this far (still incomplete):
Above: The antique knobs I found at Hobby Lobby for $4 ea (50% off sales ROCK!)
Below: The entrance to our master bath
The Kitchen: My favorite part of the whole house!
They painted & glazed our cabinets! Coincidentally, my mom & dad, sister & bro-in-law and Corey & I are all building houses at the same time! Mom & Brittany both wanted their kitchen cabinets to be stained dark, so I decided to be the different one. They could not have turned out better!!
We also love our distressed black vent hood! Look for our dining room table to be very similar to that (with the piece of granite they have to cut out for the cooktop to be part of the table as well). I'm glad I have a handyman husband :)
We went with a brown composite granite sink to tie in our bronze faucets. We won't have any stainless steel or brushed nickel anywhere, so we thought: "Why have a stainless sink?"
Below: Just a close-up of the lighting fixtures in the master bath.
Below is our walk-in shower in the master bath. It wraps around to the right behind the tub. Very neat~
There will definitely be more pics to come! And very soon! I can't wait for all of our bronze fixtures to be in. Then it will look almost complete! Also, I love interior decorating, so it will be SO nice to have something other than plain white walls to fix up! Come on Sept. 2!
Feel free to share your interior decorating tips. Right now, all I have to go from is HGTV.com :)
Thanks for reading my first post! My next one will probably include some of my favorite recipes that I have had numerous people ask me for, and some have even won awards and been published! (I'm really not kidding!) :)
Here's to hoping for cooler weather soon :) Till next time <3
