More Around the House Stuff

December 12, 2011

Wow! It's been forever since I've written a blog post! This time of year always sneaks up on us, then it gets real hectic with work Christmas parties and shopping, etc. We've done a few things around the house that I wanted to show you. Not much...yet. Just a couple little changes we've made, and some bigger projects in the works.

Before we get started, how about clicking below to listen to my all-time favorite Christmas song while you browse? You won't be the least bit surprised by it :) And don't deny it. You know you love it too, especially if you hate the cold like I do. Piña colada anyone?

First, the guest bathroom. You know how I am about wanting a certain area to really pop when you look at it. That's the reason for the red dining room walls, the red furniture, the brown/copper walls surrounding the tub in our master bath, the colored accent walls in all of the bedrooms, and even Hershey, the chocolate wall in our living room that I still don't know what to do with. It's funny how Corey gets freaked out when I first tell him my ideas. He wanted to just leave the walls in the dining room red, so when I got that can of copper glaze out, he started saying, "You're going to ruin the walls. Why don't you just leave them red?" Blah, blah, blah. Even today, he still goes on and on about how good they look. When will he learn that I do not have trashy taste when it comes to this stuff? When I get the wallpaper out is when he should be worried. :) ANYWAY...so our guest bathroom used to look like this:

Brown tile, brown walls, brown wood, brown fixtures, brown-ish countertops, brown shower curtain, brown everything. Some of that is by choice though, because I REFUSE to have anything burnt orange anywhere other than the sink. It seems appropriate the sink being orange; it doesn't matter how much you spit on it. :) There is the slightest bit of green in the sink, so I kinda ran with that. This is what it looks like now:

(Note to self: Spend extra $1, get real Windex.) What a difference that made! It's a foresty, olive-ish green, and I painted the ceiling and all. Anytime I tell Corey I want to paint something green, he's afraid it will end up being bright lime green; even he loves this color. Then he freaked when I told him I was painting the ceiling. Again, don't doubt me honey. :)

The next thing we did was recover our bar stools. They just had plain beige seats on them, so I bought some fabric and voila! We have like-new bar stools:

Such a cheap and easy way to freshen up something, and it takes no time at all. In fact, my mother-in-law gave us a couple of chairs that I am in the process of recovering and glazing. Not sure where they will end up, but wherever it is, they'll look good :)

Also, I finally got to set out my snowman dishes!! A couple Christmases ago, my mom, sister and grandmas got me an entire set of dishes from Kohl's that has the cutest snowmen on it. It was one of those gifts that I totally was not expecting, but it ended up being my favorite ever. Aren't they cute?

One of our very-near-future projects is a headboard for our bed. Remember I told you that Corey had built a king size bed for our master bedroom and we painted it antique white and glazed it? Maybe I didn't tell you; either way, we've had a headboard-less bed for a while now. It's taken me a while to figure out what kind of headboard I want. You know me, I can't ever do anything the simple traditional way. Here are some ideas I picked from HGTV.com & Pinterest. Now if I could just narrow them down...

If you can't tell, I'm really digging the fabric-covered headboards :) I also like how some of them go all the way to the ceiling. Who knows what ours will end up looking like? All I know is it won't be too much longer.

And finally, here are some fun Christmas pics we took yesterday for our Christmas cards. If I have your address, be looking for yours in the mail soon :)

If you look closely, you'll see a certain little dog's head at the bottom of the window. :)
