Living Room Completion Part II: From Bland to Bam!

January 12, 2012

Can I just say, "WOW!" The response to my last post was off the hook! It quickly became my # 1 most popular post since starting this blog, which is amazing knowing how long it took other posts to get where they are. We love sharing our home projects with you and we're glad you're still interested too!

With that being said, I can FINALLY tell you that Hershey is complete!! Remember in this post from August when I painted that lonely wall chocolate brown before we moved in without the slightest idea of what to do with it? (If you read what my plans were for it back then, you'll see that it has turned out exactly like I said I wanted it to. Cool huh? :) )

Well, that was before I discovered Pinterest and HGTV.com. We did have a mirror hanging on that wall for a while, but I just was not feeling it. I'm not even sure I know why I painted that wall; it just looked like it needed something. After weeks of searching for ideas, these are what I found:

You know how I am about combining different ideas to make my own. So, with a little of this, and a little of that, we go from bland...

...to BAM!

This is Hershey with Almonds! :)

What do you think? Do you like? I have since taken away some of the decor on the table. I wanted the eye to be drawn to the wall :)

All of the frames are, of course, hand-crafted by the wonderful Corey Wall and painted & glazed by mwah :)

The frames are made of oak crown molding trim with no backing and no glass. You should've seen Hubs' face when I told him this. "You're gonna be able to see right through it to the brown wall," he said. Yes, dear. I'm aware. :)

I did take some of the first picture into consideration by getting some decorative scrapbook paper from Hobby Lobby (I waited until it was 50% off and got each sheet for 29¢! Yes...I'm too cheap to buy 60¢ paper even though I just need 3 sheets :) ) and taping it to the wall and nailing the frame on over it. I thought if I did a sheet of paper behind each frame, it would be too much, so I just did three. I am SO glad that this dang wall is finished, and I'm sure you are too :)

Here's something random: a shelf I needed to put in another arrangement in the living room:

Hubs found some scrap wood and threw it together in no time flat. Man am I thankful for him! And yes, that's yet another LED candle. Did I tell you they come with 2-hour timers on them?? Because they come with 2-hour timers on them! I have a total of 23 LED candles "burning" at any given moment, counting the tealights. Coolest thing since sliced bread I tell ya!

One last thing. I have uploaded pics of our guest bath and living room tables to HGTV.com's Rate My Space page, and if you haven't already, I would LOVE if you would go and give them each 5 stars :)

Click here to rate the guest bath and here for the red tables. Thank ya! :)

Welp, that's all for now! Up next will be our master bedroom! All that is in the room right now is a bed, headboard and an old beat-to-heck chest of drawers. No nightstands, no curtains, no decorations whatsoever. This will be a lengthy project...my favorite! Hubs is bound & determined to build every piece of furniture in that house, so it may be a while. God love him. As always, you'll be the first to see our progress on it! But until then, here's a sneak peek of that headboard we built on its perch behind our bed:

Cheers!
