DIY Wine Bottle Tiki Torches

September 25, 2014

Okay, so they're not technically wine bottles, but you get the idea.

I wanted a light blue transparent bottle, and I happened to find them at Hobby Lobby for 50% off (so, $3.99 each). We think they are pretty cool!

After purchasing wicks, we discovered they weren't very long, so we decided to fill the bottom of the jar with small river rocks.

Hubs did a great job of making caps for them...

...and attaching them to the pillars of our pergola.

They provide the perfect ambient light, plus they keep the mosquitoes away!

If you'd like to make your own, here's what you need:
  • A glass bottle
  • Tiki torch wick refill
  • Tiki torch oil
  • Small river rocks or sand (optional)
  • Cap (we used 1/2" copper caps found in the plumbing section by the fittings at Lowe's)
  • 1/2" to 3/8" copper reducer
  • 3/8" galvanized ceiling hanger
  • 1" galvanized hanger ring clamp with 3/8" threads
  • Teflon tape rated for chemical use
  • 1 ft 3/8" threaded rod
  • 4  3/8" Hex nuts
  • Weldless silver steel chain (small gauge for caps)
