Operation Dining Room Table
October 23, 2011Well, we've been at it again.
Corey was looking for another project to work on, and boy do I have those lined up. I told him he could build the dining room table, which he was excited about because then he would have a reason to not watch Dancing with the Stars with me. :)
So we measure the dining room to see what size will fit and go to Lowe's to get all the lumber.
And Hubs starts to build it.
A day later, it's almost finished:
The top is made of oak, and we originally wanted to stain it. So we found some black semi-transparent stain and put 2 coats on. You can kinda see how it turns out in this pic:
Then we had to go on a mission to find chairs. We wanted the table & chairs to be black to tie in the dining room with the kitchen because our vent hood and appliances are black and our granite countertops are dark too. When we found the chairs and got them home, the blacks didn't match. The table was too transparent and it looked like a really really dark brown stain instead of black. We figured it would be easier to paint the table to match the chairs rather than find chairs to match the table. So we got some oil-based black paint and painted over the stain.
After letting it dry overnight, we finally have a table for our dining room!
So what do you think? Does it look good? Would you have done a different color other than black?
Wow. It's changed a lot since this pic was taken. Sadly, Hershey is still not how I would like it to be. I have a mirror and some metal leaf things hanging on it at the moment but I don't think they'll be calling Hershey home much longer.
On another note, I made some pumpkin roll cupcakes the other day with cream cheese icing and they were SO GOOD. I highly recommend them. There are a couple different things you can do with the recipe, so instead of posting it on my Recipes page, you can click here to be taken to one of my favorite recipe/blog sites, the Southern Plate.
As of right now, that's all I have! Things are moving slower now as you can see. We kinda like it like that though :)
