Back to Reality
November 13, 2011I haven't written a blog in quite a while; not much happening around the Wall house lately. But, last week we took a much-needed, relaxing vacation to Destin, Florida. We had the absolute best time and can't wait to go back!
The sunsets were simply stunning. We didn't think we would get to see the sun set over the water since our balcony was facing south, but luckily, it's almost winter :)
Daylight Savings Time had just ended, so the time had fallen back an hour (and we were still in the central time zone), so the sun set well before 5:00 every day, and it was pitch black by 5:30. Luckily, the moon was full and bright most of the week, so we still got to enjoy the beach at night.
Since the time had changed, the sun was rising right at 6 am. My body clock had not yet adjusted to the time difference, so I was up & at 'em for every sunrise. They were just as amazing:
This place was fantastic! They had a coffee/latte/cappuccino machine right downstairs that was complimentary. Sitting on the balcony every morning with a cappuccino in hand watching the waves while waiting for the Hubs to wake up (seems his body clock had adjusted quickly) was the perfect beginning to every day.
The first day we got there, we had an awesome welcome tray waiting for us. A bottle of wine, fresh roses, grapes and chocolates. You'll notice you don't see the chocolates here though. Wonder where they could've gone.... :)
We were on what's known as the "Emerald Coast" because the water is the prettiest greenish-blue color. Here are my fav. shots:
Yes, that is an empty wine glass from the night before :)
:)
Had to get the cliche sandy toes pic :)
This is where we stayed:
It's a bed & breakfast on the edge of a state park beach, which means there are no buildings for a good 1 1/2 or 2 miles. My favorite part about it: no kids allowed and 1 1/2 miles of beach to yourself :) Can't find that in the Caribbean...unless you have mucho dolares $$$.
This is where their nightly happy hour at sunset happens:
The little tiki bar is where they serve free beer, wine & mixed drinks during happy hour.
This is where we ate our breakfasts each morning. I'm not talking a lame pastry breakfast; I'm talking a fully cooked-to-order breakfast. We had omelets, the most amazing waffles ever, biscuits & gravy, muffins, bacon, ham, sausage, and pretty much anything else you could imagine. It beats the heck out of eating a honey bun while looking at a computer screen every morning, that's for sure. Oh, and boxed lunches from a delicious local deli were included every day, too. About as all-inclusive as you can get without going to another country.
There were periods where we did not leave the inn for over 24 hours; no need to. It's the perfect place to go if you're looking to relax, not so much for adventure, although we could've borrowed their bikes and went for a ride. I was perfectly fine with laying on the beach doing absolutely nothing for an entire week, except for reading some books that I hadn't had a chance to read yet.
We were there 5 nights, and the time seemed to pass so slow, which was so nice. It really seemed like we were there longer than 5 nights. Don't you love it when time actually slows down for a little bit? We get so caught up in our daily lives, running around trying to please people and being places on time and devoting so much energy to literally everything but ourselves.
Corey was happy to have missed one of his busiest weeks at work this year, but now it's back to reality for both of us. Seems like it's been forever since we've been at work :)
Till next time. <3
PS. Thanks mom for letting me borrow your camera. Maybe I'll get a good one someday from a certain someone.... ;)
