Friday Favorites: Get. In. My. Belly.
January 06, 2012So I'm sitting here and all I keep thinking about is the shrimp that Corey & I are having for dinner tonight. If you have never been to Bonefish Grill you are truly missing out. When we were in Destin in November we tried it and LOVED it. Apparently there is one in Tulsa, too. Anyway, they have an appetizer called the Bang Bang Shrimp, which is fried shrimp covered in a tangy spicy sauce that is to die for. I found a copycat recipe on the internet and we are going to try it tonight. If all goes well, you can find it on my Recipes page tomorrow. :)
All this thinking about food was of course making me hungry, and I haven't done a Friday Favorites in a while, so I put 2 and 2 together...J
Everyone loves comfort food, especially in the winter when you wanna just curl up on the couch in front of the fire with an easy-to-fix and not-so-heavy meal. I've compiled my 10 favorite winter comfort foods, which just happen to show up on every unhealthy food list there is. Not to worry, these are not daily indulgences...only if we're too lazy and tired to fix anything else.

Fried pickles with ranch: They are the reason that one of our favorite wedding gifts was a deep fryer. It doesn't get better than fried pickles...with ranch of course.
Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches: To me, no fancy restaurant-spin on tomato soup is better than a can of Campbell's with some saltine crackers. I like to toss a little basil and shredded cheddar cheese in too just for fun. And a grilled cheese sandwich is not complete without a fat slice (or two) of Velveeta running out the sides as you're eating it. These two go together like bacon & eggs, or fried pickles & ranch, or Will & Kate...you get the idea.
Chocolate brownies (the boxed kind): You know something chocolate would be on this list, right? I am picking brownies over chocolate chip cookies because they're so much easier to fix. Dump. Mix. Pour. Bake. Eat. Easy peasy. Most of the time you have all of the ingredients on hand. Eggs, oil and water. Can't get much easier than that.
Chocolate pudding snack packs (NOT the sugar- or fat-free kind!): How much easier can it get? Peel back the cover and dig in! Hardly any effort; my kinda snack :)
