New Year, New Look

January 03, 2012

I hope everyone had a safe, fun, happy New Year! Corey and I got to hang out with some friends we hadn't seen in a while and had a great time!

The start of a new year is always filled with clichéd resolutions about eating healthier and losing weight. Let's face it, by the end of January those who made those resolutions will have already let them fall by the wayside and will have picked up right where they left off Dec. 31.

As for me, I like to look at different aspects of things I'm involved in and try to make myself better. This year, especially, I see some opportunities on the horizon and I am not one to sit around and let them come to me. After all, sitting around waiting on opportunities to fall into your lap is the reason that we feel the need to lose all that weight the next year, right? :) Set some realistic goals people and stick to them! :)

So...how do you like the new name and new look? I felt like I needed to freshen things up a little, and I thought where better to start than my blog? I stopped posting pictures to Facebook and instead started posting them here, and it seems to have pulled quite a few of you in. Thanks for being so interested in what I thought was our pretty-boring-lives :)

One thing I can't WAIT to get started on this year: Gardening! According to my mom, she is not one with a green thumb, but I figured I will at least give it a shot. I don't want to grow a lot, just a few different things. Corey will build some raised beds for me to put some good healthy soil in (I've read that not many things like to grow in this red clay dirt), and hopefully if the timing for everything is right, we'll have a few fruits, vegetables and pretty flowers throughout the spring & summer. If you have any tips or tricks, feel free to leave them in the comments section. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) I plan on attempting to grow tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, bell peppers, potatoes, cilantro/coriander, garlic, okra, zucchini/squash, and eventually pumpkins! I also want a grapevine because...well I love grapes, and Corey wants me to grow strawberries. We'll see how all of this goes. You may want to stay tuned on this one; I could end up posting something about an epic failure of a garden, and you wouldn't want to miss that :) Supposedly they are hard work. To that I say bring it!
