My First Green Smoothie

February 27, 2012

Well, it's Monday again, and with a new week comes a new breakfast: a green smoothie!

Isn't it pretty? Just my color green, too!

One of my co-workers introduced me to green smoothies a while back and one thing she would always tell me was, "Don't smell it, just drink it." :)

I have run across numerous recipes, but, per my green smoothie veteran friends, throwing whatever you have in a blender works just as well (just make sure you don't throw in too many different things; three to five different ingredients is recommended). This particular smoothie has chunks of frozen banana and frozen pineapple, a whole kiwi with peel, a couple handfuls of baby spinach, mango nectar and water. You wouldn't think all of these fruity flavors would mesh well together, but they really do. Depending on the types of fruit you use, it is possible to 100% mask the flavor of the greens. Plus, you're getting tons of antioxidants and fiber.

When the blender is packed full like this, you can get a few days' worth of smoothies out of it. I've heard you can make them up to 3 days in advance and refrigerate them. If you're like me and are usually running late in the mornings anyway, these will be easy to grab on the go!

I learned a lot from this web site when first researching these smoothies, and I can't wait to try more! This is also a good way to get a few vegetable servings because, let's face it, I'm not going to get vegetables any other way...unless they're deep fried and/or I can dip them in ranch dressing. :)

Have you ever tried a green smoothie? Or made one yourself? Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments.

  1. Makes me want to run out and actually BUY a blender...you would think with all the health stuff I'm into...I'd have one! The green smoothie is a great start for March and St. Patty's day...
