#Summertime
June 24, 2013Here in Oklahoma, the heat gets pretty extreme in the summer (even record-breaking the last few summers), but I would MUCH rather deal with heat than bitter cold. Ugh. Hubs, on the other hand, favors winter and all it entails (colds and snotty noses, dry, cracked skin, 15 layers of clothes, icy roads, ridiculous blizzards, etc.). I will never understand why. J
With that said, here are some of my favorite things about #Summertime
My Ultimate Summer Salad
Omg you guys. This is AMAZING and SO cheap to make. Thanks to the awesome Pioneer Woman, I was able to make my own salad dressing with ingredients I already had. Here's what's in it:
- Romaine lettuce
- Diced avocado
- Halved cherry tomatoes
- Bite-size mozzarella rounds
- Sliced onion
- Hard-boiled egg
- Sliced grilled chicken breast
YUM.
Lemon Lime Water
Drinking it first thing in the morning is a great way to rid your body of toxins, plus it helps with digestion. AND it's delicious! I like taking a tall glass of it to Hubs when he's outside mowing or working on something in the garage during the summer. Very refreshing.
Being Outside
Whether it's being on the lake, floating the river, riding the four wheeler or cooking out, there's nowhere I'd rather be than with family and friends having a great time.
Rum
...because Kenny Chesney makes it. And piña coladas are amazing. Most rums come from the Caribbean islands...and we all know that's where I'd be if I didn't have reason to be in Oklahoma.
Music
If Kenny Chesney isn't on your summer playlist, you can go ahead and unfriend me.
When I'm not sailing with Kenny in the islands via my speakers, I like to listen to.....well...I'm always sailing with Kenny in the islands. As of late, I've been hooked on Florida Georgia Line's album. It reminds me more of the summers in SE Oklahoma...except for the moonshine bits. I was a good kid. J
A Glass of Wine at Sunset
If only that was my view every night, ha
I also feel like the desire to lead a healthier life is strongest in the summer, especially for us ladies attempting to not embarrass our significant others in our swimsuits, haha ;). For me, it's easier to eat healthier and exercise in the summer rather than in the winter after making those pesky New Year's resolutions. Summer eating just seems generally lighter and more flavorful. Who wants creamy, heavy soups in the middle of summer? Not me. One of my summer favorites is fresh vegetables (bell peppers, onion, squash, zucchini and jalapeños), sliced, seasoned and grilled or sauteed. I like to top them with guacamole and salsa. Talk about flavorful!
So those are a few things that spell #Summertime to me. What about you?
