It has been quite a while since Hubs and I had a project going. In fact...I'm not even sure what the last one was. But, this next one is going to be a lot of fun!

If you've seen pictures of our backyard, you know we do not have a large covered patio. It leaves a lot to be desired, so we're doing something about it: We're building a deck and a pergola!

After deciding to build a back deck before finishing our study, the first thing I did was search Pinterest for some ideas (because where else do you find fabulous ideas?).

Then, I drew a rough draft of what I had in mind, and Hubs took it from there...

 

After we took some measurements, we made the first of many trips to Lowe's...

Let the fun begin!

First, we had to do some framing and figure up where the pillars will be set. Then, it's on to digging holes and filling them with concrete to give them good solid foundations.

 Proof I'm not completely useless. :)

After putting in these anchor clamp things (we're getting technical up in here), we'll let those set and in a couple days, we'll have the pillars and pergola rafters up! Holla!!

It's hard to tell how big it will be just from looking at photos, but it will 256 sq. ft. of covered space when all is said and done. We will move the fire pit over to be centered with the deck and build seating around it, which will leave room for a small pool if we ever want one (and we do!). I can't wait to be able to sit outside and enjoy the evenings!
