Weathered Wood Cupcake Stand

July 22, 2014

First thing's first, if you haven't seen my sister's maternity photos yet, you must go take a look. Being the petite person she is, she's THE cutest pregnant person ever! Enjoy.

Okay. If you didn't already know how awesome my husband is, let me just clue you in. I saw a wooden cupcake stand on an episode of The Pioneer Woman last weekend, and I told him how neat it would be to have one and asked him if it would be hard to make. He said it wouldn't be hard at all, and later that afternoon, I had my own. Boom. Is your significant other that awesome? I'm gonna say probably not, but then again...I'm a little biased. :)

Here's what The Pioneer Woman's looks like:

And here's mine (disclaimer: obviously my cupcakes do not look half as good as hers...Besides, I only made a few anyway)!

It doesn't look like it, but Hubs used cheap whitewood to craft this. After he built it, he took a piece of wood with screws through it and scraped the sides of it to make it look beaten and worn. Then, he used a hammer and screws and beat it some more!

We had some "black" stain that we almost used for our dining room table, but it ended up being gray. It turns out gray was exactly what we wanted for this project! Can you tell these boards were once very smooth and clean cut?

Thanks Pioneer Woman for inspiring this awesome idea! And thanks Hubs for building it for me. :)
