Project Deck: It's finished!

August 25, 2014

You guys! The deck is finished!

We spent the weekend purchasing the decking materials, installing it and shopping for furniture. As you can see, we went with white wicker from Garden Ridge. Yes, there is still a lot to do before it's exactly as we want it (for starters, a roof/cover and curtains to block the evening sun), but we can finally enjoy it now instead of just look at it. And that hammock...quite possibly my favorite find yet.

Below are some photos of the progress. Enjoy!

We had a lot of help from the bro-in-law. Thanks, J!

We found this wonderful 8' x 10' outdoor rug at Home Goods. I love how its hexagon design matches the hexagon design of the seat cushions...

Our concrete patio looked awful! It had all kinds of stains on it, so we decided against staining it (too much work, hah). Instead, we painted it. Pinterest had tons of neat designs, but we opted for a solid sandy brown color. In the future–if I get a hankerin'–I may add some kind of design element to it. For now, I think it goes well with everything.

Eeek! Stained concrete would've looked great, but it was too late to do the acid wash because it would've eaten through the wood. The paint turned out great, though, and we like it!

I am IN LOVE with this furniture, if you can't tell.

This hammock I found on Amazon for around $40. It is hand-woven by the Mayans in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. I looked up some history and supposedly the hammock originated with the Mayans way back in the day. Plus, the reviews were great. So far, so good!

Ta-dah!

There you have it!

Next up: The boardwalk to the fire pit! Do you remember me telling you we're going to surround the fire pit with sand so you can sit with your toes in the sand? Well, I ordered some Adirondack chairs (if you're not sure what these are, Google them. They're great!) so we will feel close to the beach!

I am so happy to be transforming our back yard into an extended part of our house. The deck adds 256 square feet of space for us to enjoy.

Thanks for following along! Stay tuned for more additions to our back yard.

Yes, painting the concrete took all of 15 minutes, and it looks much cleaner!
