Somewhere in the Sun
August 20, 2014Hubs and I have been everywhere this summer...Indiana, San Antonio, San Marcos, Washington, D.C...the only problem is we've been to those places separately. All summer we had been searching for a quick getaway for just the two of us. Then, I saw on Kenny Chesney's Facebook page he would be doing one concert this summer, and it would be FREE! Even better...it would be on the BEACH!
Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you there are few places I would rather be than at a Kenny Chesney concert and at the beach. Put the two together, and you have an epic experience. I was so disappointed when I learned he wouldn't be touring this summer, so I knew I couldn't miss out on this!
The timing was perfect; I booked a condo in Orange Beach, Alabama–his concert was on the beach behind the famed Flora-Bama Lounge on the Florida-Alabama state line–and a month later, here we are.
We seriously had the BEST time. It was so awesome being surrounded by tens of thousands of people who are as crazy about Kenny as I am.
Here are a few photos from the last six days (if you follow me on Instagram, you've probably already seen most of them). These were all taken on my phone, so the quality is not what you may be used to seeing on my blog. :)
Off we go on our 14-hour one-way road trip!
Within 30 minutes of arriving in Orange Beach...
How can you not be so ready to feel the sand between your toes?
"No Shoes Nation" is the name Kenny gave his army of fans.
Man, the sunrises and sunsets! They were beautiful from our 8th-floor balcony!
We're on the shuttle bus and ready to see Kenny!
These wristbands were hot ticket items!
We got to the Flora-Bama a little early, so we cooled off in the ocean before walking up to stake our claim about 75 yards from the stage. Everyone seemed to be sporting their SEC gear (we were in Alabama, after all), so I had to represent my Sooners to remind those Roll Tide fans who spanked them like red-headed stepchildren a few months back. :) Gotta love college football.
There were an estimated 40,000 people on the beach that day, plus between 300 and 400 boats anchored out in the water. What an awesome day.
Another beautiful morning on the coast.
We watched a rainstorm pass just to the south of us.
The rest of the day consisted of this...
...and this.
That evening we took a sunset stroll–we even saw a pod of dolphins!
I heart him.
Ahhhhhh
On the hunt for seashells, although we didn't find many.
After the sun went down, we lay on the beach chairs and caught glimpses of a few shooting stars. Sounds like a page from a romantic novel, huh? LOL.
Our last full day in Orange Beach consisted of much of the same. Why shop and play golf when there's plenty of that here in Oklahoma? Nope. We'd rather lie around all day being lazy beach bums.
So, that's what we did.
One final sunset.
Unfortunately, we had to come back this time. :(
1,843 miles. 28.5 hours on the road.
Can't wait to do it again!!
