Bryson's Wonder Bumpers

May 06, 2015

Crib bumpers. They seem to be a bit controversial. A nurse told me half of the pediatricians say they're fine, the other half warn people not to use them because they could cause SIDS, suffocation, etc. Moms have also told me not to waste my money on baby bedding because most of the cost is due to the bumpers, when all you really need is a fitted sheet.

When I began researching nursery furniture and bedding, I ran across a set of wonder bumpers. They're padded covers for each individual slat of a crib. While I'm sure hitting his little noggin on the sides of his crib won't hurt him (as my mom says, "He'll probably be hard-headed like his momma!" Hehe), they add an extra touch of comfort and style to his nursery.

The wonder bumpers I found online were: 1) Expensive; 2) Themed or only offered in the wrong colors and, 3) Sold as a package of 38 or 40-something when I only needed 24. As with the rest of his nursery, I decided to pursue a customizable option.

After failed attempts at following a simple tutorial on YouTube, I took my idea, crib slat measurements and material to a professional. She was already making me a diaper bag, car seat canopy, blankets and some other things, and I knew they would turn out great...and they did!

Here are the wonder bumpers made especially for Bryson's crib:

They provide just enough padding where he won't wake up screaming because he bumped his head, but not enough where he can smash his face into them and suffocate.

The thing I love about these is you can either make them or have them made in any combination of fabric....AND, they're reversible! The color and design possibilities are endless!

They simply velcro on the back side. Zippers would work, too, but would be much more expensive.

Thank you to Amy Hale at A. Chartier's in Spiro, Okla. for doing such a great job with these bumpers (I think these were the first ones she had made)! They truly complete the look I was going for in his nursery.
