An Early Valentine's Day Surprise
January 27, 2017It truly does the heart good to take part in someone else's joy, and today, I was able to do just that.
If you have had a conversation with my husband over the last three years, chances are good you discussed the new Ford F-150s. Since the very first concept was released back in 2013, he has been so excited — borderline obsessed — to upgrade from his current 2010 F-150.
Truck talk has increased exponentially over the last few weeks, and he has even been talking to a Ford rep at a dealership up here in the OKC metro area. Being the patient and reasonable person he is, he hadn't pulled the trigger yet. I, however, do not enjoy the same amount of patience he has and thought it would be fun to surprise him with a brand new truck. I'm calling it an early Valentine's Day gift and, after some close calls, actually pulled it off as a COMPLETE surprise!
In order to pull it off, I had to enlist the help of a few friends and family members. First, I had to get into his email to gather some information. I needed the info on his trade-in that he had emailed a few days prior, as well as the link to this new truck he had been seriously considering. He totally caught me and I had to quickly think on my feet (a trait I'm glad I do have) to derail his suspicions. He bought my excuse. First hurdle, crossed.
I sent Matt, at Dunn Ford in Stigler, all the information and he found an EVEN BETTER truck that I knew Corey would LOVE. My brother-in-law, Jonathan — a fellow F-150 fanatic — confirmed it had every single feature Corey would want (and more!) and, after offers were made, I decided to pull the trigger! Eeeekkk could this really happen without him knowing about it?
I worked with Matt some more to arrange how we could swap the vehicles. My parents were already coming to town this weekend to celebrate my sister's birthday so they could bring the new truck, but I didn't want to detract from her birthday. I thought it would be fun to swap the two vehicles while he was at work, but I didn't want to make a 5-hour roundtrip drive in the same day. Luckily, Matt had a driver willing to drive the new truck to Norman and take his old truck back to Stigler. Maybe it really could happen!
Corey and I had a conversation just last night (the night before his truck arrived), and he said he is about burned out on looking for trucks...he thinks he'll just wait a few months to see what kind of deals come out between now and then. I love his patience and believe it's a virtue that should be celebrated, but it was SO hard to contain my excitement.
I spoke with one of Corey's co-workers, Lynn, who was so excited to keep this a secret from Corey. She even knew about the red truck he was wanting, so I know he's been excited about the prospect of a new truck for a while. Anyway, she gave me updates throughout the work day so I knew when to coordinate the swap and when to be onsite to see his reaction to his NEW TRUCK!
If you know Corey, you know he does not show his emotions. I know he's super excited on the inside — like, jumping up and down like a kid — but his chill personality tends to limit what actually makes it out in the form of smiles, lol! But look at those ear-to-ear grins...makes my heart happy.
I doubt he will be able to sleep tonight. Heck, I almost couldn't sleep last night just knowing how happy he would be by the end of a looooong work week!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped keep this a surprise for Corey (even if it was only a few days): Lynn, Matt, Jonathan (who was probably more excited than I was, LOL, after all, it was his idea), Brittany, my parents...I'm so glad we pulled it off!
I wonder what other surprises I have up my sleeve...????
Watch below for the fun video of the big reveal (this may not work on mobile devices)!
