Red + Copper = New Dining Room!
August 21, 2011First, you should check out my new page "House Pics." I'm consolidating all of the pictures I post of our house on that page so they are easy to find in case you want to copy any ideas :)
I have found a new favorite hobby!
We decided to spruce up our dining area a bit, and we thought the perfect way to do that would be to accent the bottom part of each wall with a little red paint and separate the red from the brown with a chair rail. We used some red paint on a wall in one of the guest bedrooms and it.was.a.PAIN. to cover the wall. We probably painted 5 layers on it, and some parts are still a little sketchy. It was a cheap paint from Wal-Mart; so this time, we went to Lowe's and got a quart of Valspar HD paint (in Posh Red :) ) and only had to put ONE layer on. It was great. Here's a before & after:
I didn't want just a plain red wall; I wanted to really see the texture. We looked at a couple of different techniques and decided on rag-rolling. Now, we could've used a darker mocha color glaze on top of the red, but if you know me, then you know I like *shiny*. So we found a copper glaze and rolled it over the top of the red and this is what it looks like now:
Next up: glazing our interior doors. Sounds fun right? :)
Then, we're painting a wall in our living room chocolate brown AND the walls behind, beside & over our tub in our master bath :) We love home projects! Can't wait! More pics to come~
