More Home Interiors~
August 24, 2011As promised, I have more pics of our latest home projects! This is the part I have been waiting for ever since my mom let me repaint my room turquoise back in Stigler probably 10 years ago: having a space of my own to infuse my own personal taste and influence into! I say "my" but really it's "our" personal taste. The copper glaze idea was definitely all me though; hubs isn't really into the metallics and flashiness like I am :) Just look at our vehicle history: hubs has had two black vehicles, a white truck and now a silver truck (not flashy at all by my standards :) ); me, on the other hand, I've had a cobalt blue car, a metallic kiwi green SUV and now a "chili pepper red" convertible (if I had the money, I would paint it the bright lime green Camaro color without thinking twice :) ). I think our styles mesh perfectly though. True story: I begged Corey to let me paint the accent in the dining room a light olive green color. He would not budge. He even used the word "tacky." He was dead set on red...a dark red at that! So, I told him if it had to be red, that I was going to kick it up a notch. He was also against the glazing idea; he wanted to leave the walls plain red. I gave him my puppy-dog sad eyes and he caved. Voila! Metallic copper made its first appearance in our house! Yay! You can find pics of these walls here!
Another project we have been working on the past couple nights has been the glazing of our interior doors. If you look at pics here, you may notice the doors are painted the same color as the walls. I was never really a fan of this idea, but it sounded tons better than forking over A LOT of extra money for real wooden doors. We recently saw this idea in another house and thought it added an antique feel to the doors; since every other idea for our house has stemmed from our antique-style kitchen cabinets, we thought it would give the perfect feel for the rest of our house as well. We had never done this before, so we started out on the backs of the guest bedroom closet doors. Each door looked a little different, and I liked how Corey's turned out better than mine. He has way more patience with things like this than I do, so he offered to do the rest of the doors. I happily obliged and went on to work on yet another project. Here are some pics of the glazed doors thus far:
Don't they look GREAT? Keep up the good work honey!
Next up we have an accent wall in the living room! Not to worry, it's not a main wall, it's actually the wall that will be behind the couch and the main happenings in the living room. I named it Hershey. Check it out:
Doesn't it make you want to gorge yourself with chocolate? Or is that just me? :) Actually, I have MAJOR plans for this wall. There's just a slight problem: I have no idea what to do with it. I want to sit a narrow accent table in the middle of it, but I'm not sure what to actually hang on the wall. Hubby has offered to custom-build our living room tables (geez, am I lucky or what?!), so I told him I want a table for this wall as well, maybe painted a deep red with a dark mocha glaze over it to give it the same antique feel. I've been vigorously searching sites like HGTV.com for ideas of how to spruce up random, otherwise unnoticed walls. This wall has HUGE potential, and I just want to do it justice. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Tomorrow, I will be in the master bathroom painting this same chocolate color on the walls and arched ceiling surrounding our tub. I'm not sure whether or not I will use the copper glaze on those walls yet. I guess it'll be a spur-of-the-moment decision! Don't you love those?! I want it to have a very relaxing, organic, spa-like feel...it is a whirlpool tub after all that I plan on using quite often. I'm sure whatever I decide to do, you'll be able to find pics right here~ Hopefully I can get that pantry door finished tomorrow as well.
The great thing about all of these projects is they are SO inexpensive. A quart of paint, a roller & brush, some tape for the baseboards and voila! You have a whole new feel to whatever room you're redoing. I'll put it like this: the money spent on the paint and supplies, glaze, etc. would not even buy me a luggage tag from the Coach outlet store; and if I were to be shopping around in there all day, I can promise I would come out with a lot more than a luggage tag. :)
