Our Relaxing "Babymoon"

April 13, 2015

This past weekend, Hubs and I went on a short-and-sweet "staycation" right here in Oklahoma. It not only marked our last getaway as a family of two before our sweet Bryson arrives, but we also used it to celebrate our 10-year dating anniversary. Time sure does fly when you're having fun!

We enjoyed the most relaxing, low key weekend in Broken Bow – the most scenic, prettiest part of the state (in our opinion). We escape there a few times a year; we love being surrounded by the rivers and hills and pine trees. The state park nearby, Beavers Bend, is our favorite park and we've visited it several times, but this time we decided to fill our weekend with things we had never done. I'll tell you more about it in the pictures below. Enjoy. :)

We stayed at the peaceful, secluded Lago Vista Bed & Breakfast, overlooking the beautiful Broken Bow Lake (the third clearest lake in the nation) and the hills that make up the Ouachita Mountains. The owners were so friendly and welcoming and their dog, Sooner, was always on hand to keep us company. The breakfasts, the room, the amenities, the view...everything was perfect. We can't wait to go back! Although it is an adults-only B&B, so it may be longer than we would like.

Beautiful sunset view from our balcony on the first night.

You know me and my sunset pics. Hah. :)

A beautiful view from the pool and fireplace area.

Me and the bump (although it's hard to see with the black shirt).

We woke up to the most gorgeous sunrise over the lake.

It made the perfect spot to do my makeup.

After a scrumptious breakfast made by the owner – and spent with two other couples from the OKC area – we headed to Body Harmony Spa for our first couples' massage. Needless to say, it won't be our last. :)

We loved the romantic, calming atmosphere of the spa. The staff did a fantastic job of accommodating us and educating us about the unique products they used – the homemade dark chocolate brownies, spiced Chai tea and chocolate-covered strawberries were the PERFECT ending. It was definitely an experience I can't wait to do again when I'm not carrying a squirming little boy. :)

Another beautiful view from the picture window in our room.

We spent the afternoon out on the lake. We have seen that area from hiking trails, cabins and kayaks on the river, but never from the lake. So we rented a pontoon and cruised around the lake for a couple of hours.

We loved soaking up the sun.

We had dinner that evening at Abendigo's – another place we hadn't been to. Then, we visited Girls Gone Wine, a fun winery and gift shop. Hubs sampled a few sweet wines and picked out some he thought I would like.

I can't wait to break open this bottle once Bryson arrives and see how well Hubs knows my taste in wine. :)

That evening, we returned to the B&B and while Hubs enjoyed a (complimentary) glass of wine, I brewed some herbal tea and we took in another stunning sunset.

The next morning, Sooner followed me into our room while I was brewing some coffee for Hubs. She kept us company all morning while we waited on breakfast. :)

Just me enjoying my hot cocoa on our last morning. I so wish this getaway could've lasted longer. :(

We will miss waking up to this view every morning.

Beautiful!

We enjoyed the best breakfast on our balcony and, luckily, the weather was perfect. :)

After stopping by the state park's gift shop to pick up Bryson a stuffed animal and T-shirt, we ventured out to the Whip-Poor-Will Fudge Factory to bring home some delicious fudge! Then, we tried out Grateful Head's pizza, which was amazing! Probably some of the best pizza we've had.

We finished our trip by purchasing some muscadine jelly and homemade salsa from Grateful Head's gift shop. Needless to say, we had an amazing, relaxing vacation to commemorate the ending of one chapter and the beginning of another.

If you ever feel the hankering to visit beautiful, scenic southeastern Oklahoma, splurge a little to stay at Lago Vista Bed & Breakfast and definitely take advantage of the couples' massage at Body Harmony Spa. Enjoy the outdoors by going for a hike, kayaking or renting a boat from the marina. As far as food goes, you can't go wrong with Grateful Head Pizza Oven & Tap Room, Abendigo's Patio & Grill and The Blue Rooster. Don't forget to stop by Girls Gone Wine and experience its super fun wine sampling bar and gift shop. I hear their wines are amazing! I'll let you know in a couple of months when I can have a glass myself. :)
